The Artist
Soprano Amalia Francalangia earned a Master of Music in Opera Performance at California State University Bob Cole Conservatory in Long Beach, California. While there, she specialized in studying and performing Czech music. She wrote her graduate thesis on singing in Czech, using Dvořák's Biblical Songs as a vehicle for explaining Czech diction and expression, which was published in the NATS Journal of Singing in 2018. As a result of this work, she was invited to the Bob Cole Conservatory Opera Institute to coach a scene from Rusalka.
She has performed in productions throughout Southern California, including Pamina and Second Lady in Die Zauberflöte, the title role in Luisa Fernanda, Dido in Dido and Aeneas, Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus, and Micaëla in Carmen. Most recently, she reprised the role of Pamina in Die Zauberflöte. Ms. Francalangia currently studies with Shigemi Matsumoto.
Originally from Massachusetts, Ms. Francalangia earned a Bachelor's degree in music from Smith College, where she studied voice under the tutelage of Karen Smith Emerson. After graduating, she moved to the Los Angeles area to pursue singing and participated in several student workshops, including with Songfest, Intimate Opera Company, Celestial Opera Company, and Opera Works. She currently serves on the board of Opera Works.
